
The Tulsa Reining Classic showcases some of the top reining horses and riders in the industry, but it also highlights the industry’s prospective champions – youth reiners. Sunday in the Mustang Arena Youth riders showed off their skills in classes for riders ages 10 & under all the way to 21.
took top honors in the 10 & Under Short Stirrup, plus the short stirrup Affiliate Regional Championship riding Reeboks Rerun, with a score of 144.
“It was really good,” he said of his run Sunday, adding that one maneuver was his favorite – Reebok’s stops.
The Youth 13 & Under champion was Raeanna Thayn riding Coded N Karma. Thayn and “Karma” also earned the ARC Youth 13 & Under, the American Quarter Horse Association 13 & Under and the USA 13 & Under win. They added the Unrestricted Youth title, as well. Coded N Karma is a 2011 gelding by Electric Code and out of Whiz N Snap.
“My horse just went out there and did I just sat up there,” she said with a laugh. “He’s really honest. My run was really good.”
The Youth 14-18 champion and ARC Youth 14-18 champ was Dani Latimer riding Sparklin Nite, a 2012 stallion by Gunners Special Nite and out of Getaway Spark.
“I’m excited for this guy, he’s come a long way in the past year,” Latimer said. “As a young horse he was a really slow learner. He’s still getting the hang of it, but he’s proven himself to be a really good show horse.”
The Rookie Youth winner was Justin Eddy riding Cloned By Whiz, a 2007 mare by Topsail Whiz and out of Princess Clone Chex. The pair turned in a score of 138 for the win. Eddy also claimed the AQHA 14-18 win.
Taylor Zimmerman rode Wimpys Little Jessie to the USA 14-18 championship with a score of 143.
