Our Condolences: Dun It For Chex 1996–2019

NRHA Hall of Fame inductee and Million Dollar Dam Dun It For Chex was humanely euthanized at age 23 on Monday, September 23.

Bred by Pat Warren, Dun It For Chex was sired by NRHA Six Million Dollar Sire Hollywood Dun It and out of Silver N Blue Chex. Cardinal Hill Training Center purchased her in 2014 and later retired her from an extremely successful breeding career to enjoy a life of luxury in Aubrey, Texas.

Although she never competed, the mare’s impressive progeny, with combined earnings of more than $1,034,461 to date, testifies to her superiority as a dam. Currently, 22 of her 32 offspring—five of which are not yet performance-age—have acquired NRHA earnings, including two that have more than $100,000 in NRHA LTE and several others that are close to reaching that mark. Her foals have finished with top honors at major events such as the NRHA Futurity and Derby, the FEI World Equestrian Games™, the National Reining Breeders Classic, and more. Notably, she produced Dun It For Whizkey, a 2014 stallion that’s experienced great success in the show pen under the guidance of NRHA Professional Franco Bertolani. The stallion has acquired more than $256,018 in NRHA LTE and earned prestigious titles including the 2016 NRHA Futurity L4 Open reserve championship.

Dun It For Chex’s passing left a hole in the hearts of all those who knew her, but her lasting impact on the reining industry will keep her legacy alive for years to come.
