NRHA Open Futurity Semi-Finalists Decided After First Round of Competition

More than 378 entries have been whittled down to the top 75 of each division after the first go-round of the 2019 National Reining Horse Association Open Futurity.  Competition began Thursday at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, with the top 3-year-old reining horses in the nation competing not only for the prestige but also for some big paychecks.

This year, the NRHA Level 4 Open Futurity Champion will be decided after the clean-slate finals on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Now, many are one step closer to that goal.

Unofficially, it took a score of 216 to advance to the semi-finals of the Level 4 Open, which will run Wednesday, Dec. 4. Leading the field advancing to the semi-finals was NRHA five million dollar rider Andrea Fappani and Rancho Oso Rio’s Guns In My Genes with a 223. Guns In My Genes is by Tinker With Guns out of the blue hen mare Taris Designer Genes.

Sitting second in the Level 4 Open and holding the top spot in Levels 3 and 2 is Cade McCutcheon, who rode Super Marioo to mark a 222.5. Super Marioo, owned by Story Book Stables, is by Gunnatrashya out of HA Chic A Tune.

With a 218.5, Hava Vital and A Sparkling Dream topped the first go of the Level 1 Open. Owned by Dee Dee Boeckman, A Sparkling Dream is by A Sparkling Vintage out of Msdreamy.

Unofficial bubble scores were 214 for the Level 3, 210 for the Level 2, and 207.5 for the Level 1.
