NRHA Concludes August Board Meeting

For Immediate Release – August 28, 2018 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) concluded its annual August Executive Committee and Board of Directors meeting on August 21. During the last meeting led by current president, Mike Deer, representatives from across the globe gathered to continue working for the betterment of the association.

“It has been an honor to work alongside such dedicated executive committee and board members as well as committee members and staff the past two years,” said Mike Deer about the conclusion of his presidency and the August board meeting. He went on to add, “I can truly say being president of NRHA has been one of the most rewarding and meaningful things I have accomplished in my lifetime.”

Action Items Included:

  • Establishing a Sponsorship Task Force to help identify more non-endemic sponsorship opportunities
  • Clarification on rule change 56-04-19 – To limit the use of riding two-handed in a bridle to 3-year-olds in Category 2 and 6 shows with less than $5,000 added in total prize money.
  • Approval of the candidates elected by acclamation – Vice President Rick Clark, Director-At-Large Shane Brown, Mountain Region Director Bub Poplin, and Southwest Region Director Ginger Schmersal
  • 2018 NRHA Futurity patterns were changed to 12, 8, and 10 for the Open and patterns 8 and 12 for the non pro
  • 2019 Eligibility –Major changes are listed below with the policy to be published soon. Additionally, the European Council was granted an extension (December 20) to present their recommendations on the 2019 European Eligibility Policy
    • Category 2 and 6 – Level 1 Open and Non Pro eligibility will based on previous year’s rankings only
    • Category 2 and 6 – Added “factor up” so that riders only can factor back or up one level per year
    • Category 10 – Adjusted earnings caps in Ride & Slide to establish more levels of eligibility in these entry level classes
  • International trophies – The board reviewed specific stipulations regarding Canadian shows and voted to uphold Board Resolution #03-09 International Exchange Rates
  • 2019 NAAC Conditions approved
  • Affiliate Regional Championship bids were reviewed and host approved
  • Supporting an affiliate compliance review to ensure all policy, rules, and procedures best serve the membership
