The Novice Horse Non Pro riders took center stage in the Mustang Arena at the Tulsa Reining Classic Saturday in Expo Square, with reining horse competition.
Kristen Avila claimed the Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1, Affiliate Regional Championship Novice Horse Non Pro Levels 1 and 2, and tied herself for the win in the ARC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 aboard two horses.
In the Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 and ARC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 Avila won the classes aboard Mercedes Dot Tari, a 2012 mare by Cromed Out Mercedes and by Skeets Dot Tari, with a score of 144.
“She was very honest. I was very pleased with her, it’s probably one of the best runs we’ve had this year,” Avila said of Mercedes Dot Tari’s run.”
In the ARC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 Avila shared the win between Mercedes Dot Tari and KR Ima Dreamer, a 2011 stallion by Magnum Chic Dream and out of KR Ima Tejon. KR Ima Dreamer a horse she’s had plenty of success on in the past, winning the 2016 Level 1 and 2 Novice Horse Non Pro affiliate championship.
“He’s been a really good horse for me,” Avila said. “Both horses were just absolutely great for me today. I’m pleased with both of them for giving me good, solid runs. I couldn’t be happier to tie myself.”
Avila was proud of both mounts’ performances Saturday hopes to use their momentum from Saturday’s performance to boost their confidence in Sunday’s Non Pro classes. She thanked Vaughn Zimmerman for the opportunity to purchase both horses.
The Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 winner was Stephanie Gripp riding Gunners Glory-Gun N For Glory with a score of 146. Gripps 2012 mare is by Colonels Smoking Gun and out of Dun It Fir Chex.
