Taylor Sheridan Recognized as NRHA Reiner of the Year

For Immediate Release – October 8, 2019 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame Committee developed a new award supported by the Reining Horse Foundation (RHF) to recognize the NRHA Reiner of the Year. This new accolade allows NRHA to honor a person/entity who enacts a measurable, positive influence on the industry.

The inaugural recipient of the Reiner of the Year award is Taylor Sheridan. The NRHA Board of Directors voted to approve both this award and candidate for recognition.

Sheridan, a horse enthusiast since childhood who started reining after his Hollywood acting and directing career took off, elevated his commitment to reining by producing The Last Cowboy, a reality-based TV program on Paramount Network, which tied into August’s Run for a Million event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Last Cowboy put reining center stage by chronicling the journey of eight reining professionals as they prepared elite horses for the Million Dollar Invitational, the marquee event during the Run for a Million. Both the television series and the event in Las Vegas brought reiners together in a unique way and exposed a new audience to the sport of reining.

The Last Cowboy highlighted the many positive aspects of reining, from the family atmosphere to the care riders invest in their equine athletes to maintain their welfare, and brought some of NRHA’s largest events to the attention of an expanded audience.

The enduring positive energy, new relationships, and fresh perspective that Sheridan has brought to the sport of reining qualified him as the ideal recipient of this prestigious award.

“Taylor is a man of great vision and determination,” said NRHA President Mike Hancock. “His tenacity and persistence helped drive the production [of The Last Cowboy and the Run for a Million] faster and farther than anyone else could have. We’re so happy to announce that he’s our Reiner of the Year.”

Sheridan will be recognized alongside this year’s class of NRHA Hall of Fame inductees during the NRHA Futurity at Sliders’ Night Out presented by Toyon Ranch on December 4 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. On this special night, RHF will recognize new and previous NRHA Hall of Fame inductees as well as the Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and celebrate the sport’s legacy and bright future. Toyon Ranch Recognizes NRHA Affiliate Ambassadors

For Immediate Release – October 1, 2019 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – An inaugural program to recognize and involve National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) affiliate volunteers was deemed a success in 2018. NRHA Corporate Partner Toyon Ranch of Pilot Point, Texas, is again sponsoring the NRHA Affiliate Ambassadors through a program that showcases the grassroots level of reining.

The 2019 Affiliate Ambassadors will be guests at Sliders’ Night Out, a fundraising event that celebrates the NRHA Hall of Fame while benefiting the nonprofit Reining Horse Foundation (RHF). Sliders’ Night Out will be held on December 4 in Oklahoma City at State Fair Park. The goal of the Affiliate Ambassador program is to bring together diverse reining enthusiasts to connect with the global reining community at multiple levels.

NRHA has reached out to its affiliates around the world to identify individuals making an impact on reining at the affiliate level. From each of eight U.S. affiliate regions, plus those in eastern and western Canada, South America, Mexico, Europe, Oceania, and Africa, a special selection committee will choose a representative and their guest to attend Sliders’ Night Out. The prestigious banquet coincides with the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show, regarded as the world’s premier reining competition, November 28-December 7.

These special affiliate ambassadors will be eligible to have a portion of their travel costs reimbursed and receive two complimentary reserved seats for Sliders’ Night Out, recognition in the commemorative program for them and their designated affiliate, and two complimentary admission badges to the NRHA Futurity.

“The Affiliate Ambassador program is all about reaching far and wide to recognize the people who make reining happen across the world,” said Nancy Tague, who owns Toyon Ranch of Pilot Point, Texas, with her husband, John. “Passion for reining and our community is what drives these ambassadors to do the heavy lifting that allows others to enjoy the opportunity to compete.

“It is only appropriate that we share in recognizing their efforts during Sliders’ Night Out, along with the NRHA Hall of Fame inductees and Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award honoree.”

At Sliders’ Night Out 2019, past NRHA Hall of Fame inductees will be hosted and honored as special guests. New inductees include Italians Roberto Cuoghi and Claudio Risso and the mare Snip O Gun owned by Hilldale Farm of Texas. In addition, David Silva of North Carolina will be recognized with the NRHA Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Everyone is invited to make a donation to attend, and RHF Board members are encouraging reining breeders, owners, exhibitors, NRHA Professionals, affiliates, corporate partners, and supporters to contribute. From major event underwriters and Hall of Fame table hosts to single-seat donors, every person’s contribution is important.

Platinum, gold, and silver event donors and Hall of Fame table hosts can entertain Hall of Fame members as their table guests, bringing ample opportunities to mix and mingle with the icons of reining. The first Hall of Fame inductee was the late Dale Wilkinson, inducted in 1986. Today, the distinguished Hall of Fame includes nearly 100 people, horses, and organizations for the sport that’s been in existence for more than a half-century.

Individuals selected as NRHA Affiliate Ambassadors will be notified and announced at a later date. For more information and event and donor details, visit reiningfoundation.com or contact Foundation Executive Director Leslie Baker at (405) 946-7400, Ext. 106, lbaker@nrha.com.

Sliders’ Night Out Presented by Toyon Ranch Rides Again

For Immediate Release – October 1, 2019 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – One of the biggest nights on the social and charitable calendar of reiners is set for December 4, 2019, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sliders’ Night Out, presented by Toyon Ranch, will celebrate the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame while benefiting the nonprofit Reining Horse Foundation (RHF).

On tap are the inductions of Roberto Cuoghi, Claudio Risso, and the mare Snip O Gun into the NRHA Hall of Fame and recognition of David Silva with the Dale Wilkinson Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2018, Sliders’ Night Out became the single largest annual fundraiser for RHF, which serves as the charitable arm of the NRHA. Nearly $50,000 was generated to support the Foundation mission of caring for and honoring our reining community. Core programs include the Dale Wilkinson Memorial Crisis Fund, youth scholarships and leadership development through the National Reining Horse Youth Association, and perpetuation of the sport’s history through the NRHA Hall of Fame.

Fundraising is again a key goal. Donations of every level are important. They come from individuals, corporations, ranches, training barns, foundations, and groups of reiners joining forces to support the event. To date, Platinum Donors include Tim and Kim Anderson, Booth Ranches, Ian and Kristen Cantacuzene, Rick Clark, and Elementa. Gold Donors are Jack & Viola Scott. Silver Donors include Arcese Quarter Horses, Mark and Julie Blake, Blazer Farms & Cattle Company, Cardinal Ranch, Roberto Cuoghi, Foals R Us Repro Center & Stallion Station by Lotti, Markel/Frank & Susan Costantini, Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Santa Hill Ranch.

These top-level donors plus other Hall of Fame Table Hosts make it possible for all NRHA Hall of Fame inductees to attend the event as honored guests. Hall of Fame members attending in 2018 received new medallions, elevating the prestige and visibility of their awards. All Hall of Fame members are invited to be a part of the program again this year.

Another high point of the evening is recognition of NRHA Affiliate Ambassadors, volunteers selected from around the world to be honored for their work at the grassroots of reining. This program is also sponsored by Toyon Ranch of Pilot Point, Texas, an NRHA official corporate partner. Toyon Ranch owners John and Nancy Tague make it possible for these honored volunteers to attend Sliders’ Night Out and receive a travel incentive as well as passes to the NRHA Futurity.

Advance reservations are encouraged to ensure a chance to be in attendance at Sliders’ Night Out and enjoy the steak dinner and celebration. The benefit is held in conjunction with the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show.

To make reservations, contact Leslie Baker, RHF, (405) 946-7400, ext. 106 or email rhf@nrha.com.
